Are you hip to the Kindle??? That's amazon.com's new ereader, a gadget that's garnering enormous buzz. In his interview with Charlie "Talks More Than His Guests" Rose, Bezos notes that every major book publisher "without exception" has signed on as a partner. He also said that every book, regardless of retail price, will sell for $9.99. This is a stark contrast to the stance taken by the recording industry, wouldn't you say???!!!

Steve Robinson

PS Ben: why do you have comment moderation? Do you think someone would post something nasty to Ben Roe's blog??!!!!

If the cost of playing other people's music is rising, then isn't the relative cost of performing original music falling? One might hope that this could favor small groups performing their own original works.

Yep, I was part of that discussion in W.Va. last week. Thank you Ben for posting it on your blog so that others can wake up to this issue. The PROs are picking on small venues...and at the other end, they are failing to develop a system that captures on-air plays of small musical acts. To register on the BMI counts, you have to have many, many radio plays of your song...and how many blues or bluegrass bands, jazz composers, and original songwriters of all genres get hundreds or thousands of plays on commercial radio? Public radio is great but the showtimes are largely limited. What is happening is the stifling of musical talent at ground level in venues all over the country.

yours truly, Barrelhouse Bonni
www.barrelhousebonni.com

That's because anything that apple slaps with an "i" sells reguardless of practicality.

Also the price of it dropped significantly without an upgrade...and you have a detached non phone version for about $300 so that's nearly 50% off. If they sold a million and they are giving $100 back that means 100 million is being paid back....ouch.
